The dearer grade keeps all of that and adds three things you would otherwise pay for on the day.
The first is food. A buffet lunch with one beer is in the fare, with unlimited coffee and water while you eat. The last row is the one people miss. A towel is charged at both grades, and its deposit is taken in cash. One traveller on the cheaper ticket needed seven towels and was turned away until the notes appeared. The park's own cash machine was out of order that day. Carry pesos or dollars for it.
It is the most common complaint left by people who bought the cheaper ticket and stayed for the show. Lockers rented separately are not always sold for the whole day. One traveller wrote that keeping a bag from morning to closing meant signing up for the dearer grade, and that nothing said so before arriving. If you are staying to the end of the evening, that is the charge to settle first.
Start with where you sleep and what hour you can face. The earliest collection here is half past six in the morning, from Cancún or Playa del Carmen, on the coach capped at thirty seats. The latest is half past eight, from Playa del Carmen or Puerto Morelos. Between them sit the seven o'clock departures that run around Cancún and down the coast.
Then look at the time inside the gate rather than the length of the day. Three of these cards state ten hours at the park; the difference between a twelve-hour day and a fourteen-hour one is the hotel circuit, not the park. If you want the grade without a coach at all, one fare sells it from Playa del Carmen with transport as a paid option you add at booking.

So are the paid activities sold inside — the underwater walks, the swims with dolphins and the speedboat trips — and no fare above includes one. Plenty of descriptions online promise "three underground rivers", but Grupo Xcaret publishes that only the Blue and the Pre-Hispanic are open to visitors, so plan your day around two.
Skip the upgrade if you would rather graze than sit down to a buffet. Skip it if you carry a dry bag rather than rent a locker, and bring your own mask. One traveller who paid for it wrote afterwards that everyone around them reached the same lockers and changing areas, and recommended the plain ticket. That is a fair reading of a day spent mostly in the water.
Skip it too if what you want solved is the drive rather than the ticket. The park operator's own coach is the most reviewed way to make the trip, and it sells the cheaper grade as its headline fare; it sits with the rest of the Xcaret tours from Cancún if the morning drive is your real question. And if you already have a car, the entry ticket on its own is the cheapest way in by a wide margin.
